Obituary for Larry Marshall Owen

Larry Owen, 67, of Black Mountain passed away Friday, February 27, 2015.
Mr. Owen was born December 30, 1947 in Buncombe County where he lived most of his life. He was retired from the United States Navy with over 20 years of service serving during the Vietnam War. Larry was a Veterans Advocate and served on the Buncombe County Veterans Memorial Team for many years. He was a member of the Amvets Post #333 and The Masonic Lodge of Black Mountain.
Larry is preceded in death by his father, Burnice Stines; niece, Cheryl Cooper and great nephew, Dustin Cooper.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Judy Oplinger Owen; daughter, Pam Owen; son, Joe Owen and wife, Deborah; mother, Hazel Owen Stines; sisters, Lorraine Brewer (Tommy), Gail Rayburn (Tim), and Beth Conner (Junior); brothers, Tom Owen (Sandra) and Robert Rice (Karen); grandson, Alex Owen; many beloved nieces and nephews; special niece, Stephanie Jones; and family friend, Christi Whisnant, whom he loved as a daughter.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday, March 2, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Harwood Home for Funerals.
