Obituary for Albert Thomas "A.T." Hollifield

Albert Thomas “A.T.” Hollifield was born November 2, 1936 in McDowell County, NC. He went to his Heavenly home to be with his Savior on August 25, 2016 at Mountain Ridge Health and Wellness Center in Black Mountain, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernie and Susie Hollifield; and sister, Faye Massey.
A.T. was a graduate of Owen High School and a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force. Throughout his life, A.T. was hard-working and honest to a fault, always there to help those in need, and always pulling for the underdog. He owned and operated Burgess 66 Service Station, along with a John Deere dealership, Black Mountain Tire and Service Center and Sourwood Auto Sales, all in the Swannanoa Valley. A.T. was a faithful member of Meadowbrook Free Will Baptist Church for over 40 years where he sang in the choir.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lucy Runion Hollifield of Black Mountain; his daughter, Renee Hollifield Gregory of Newton, NC; his son, Randy Hollifield and wife, Shayne Hollifield of Black Mountain; his sisters, Wanda Sexton and husband, Gary of Clemmons, NC, and Ruth Collins of Knoxville, TN; his granddaughter, Ashton Gregory Robinson and husband, Hunter Robinson of Claremont, NC; his grandson, Ronnie Hollifield of Black Mountain; his great grandson, Corbin Robinson of Claremont, NC; his great granddaughter, Chloee Robinson of Claremont, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday, August 28, 2016, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at Meadowbrook Free Will Baptist Church, 204 Blue Ridge Road, Black Mountain, NC 28711.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, August 29, 2016 at 12:30 pm at the church with Reverend Randy Stone and Wendell Runion officiating.
Burial with military rites will follow at 2:00 pm at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 962 Old US Hwy 70 West, Black Mountain, NC, with Reverend Frank Cantrell officiating.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Mission Hospital Heart Tower and Mountain Ridge Health and Wellness Center for their exceptional and steadfast care.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be given to Meadowbrook Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, 204 Blue Ridge Road, Black Mountain, NC 28711.
