Obituary for Harold Thompson Butts Jr.

Harold Thompson Butts, 86, of Black Mountain, passed away November 25, 2018 at the NC State Veteran’s Home.
Mr. Butts was born on July 25, 1932 in Volusia County, FL where he lived most of his life and was raised in Ormond Beach, FL. He also lived in Newport Beach, CA for 25 years. Harold was self-employed in Commercial Real Estate, a member of Mountain View Church, and a Veteran of the US Navy.
Our Dad was known for his sense of humor. He kept it until the bitter end. He carried a business card that had the following on it: Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Life Long Republican, Retired Naval Aviator, Career Real Estate Investor, Retired Palm Tree Grower, Career Political Junkie, Native Floridian, Wannabee Artist, University of Florida Graduate, and his daughter, Hallie added Son of God. These titles sum up his life and all of the things he held dear.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents, Eileen Hubbard Butts and Harold T. Butts, Sr.; daughter, Suzanne Chandler; father and mother-in-law, Charles and Sophie Kagels.
Harold is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jeanne K. Butts; daughters, Pam Malchow of Black Mountain, NC, Hallie Saunders of Black Mountain, NC, and Kippy Ellis of Hampshire, IL; brother, Billy Butts of Ormond Beach, FL; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 2:00pm at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with Chaplain Jack Taylor officiating. Burial will immediately follow.
At other times, the family will be at the Butts’ residence in Black Mountain.
