Obituary for Aileen Watson Buchanan

Aileen Watson Buchanan, 83 of Swannanoa entered the presence of Jesus on Monday, September 19th, 2022. Her daughter and granddaughter walked her to the gates to meet her Savior Jesus and be reunited with her husband of 65 years, Lloyd “Buck” Buchanan.

Aileen was born on April 19, 1939 in Avery County, North Carolina and was the youngest of eight children. Humble beginnings and hard-working parents taught her how to be grateful and work hard at an early age. In her years of working at the Western North Carolina Sanatorium, Davidson Oil Company, Avon, and singing in the choir as a long-time member of Grove Stone Baptist Church, Aileen brought joy in countless relationships.

Her selflessness, spunk, determination in things great and small, unwavering love for her family, and steadfast faith in God shaped her family and anyone she encountered.

Aileen radiated beauty from the inside-out. As stunning as she was on the outside, that was but a reflection of her heart and spirit within. Her legacy of fervent faith in God, unconditional and outspoken love for her family, and zeal for life spurs her family on to carry her traditions and efforts to shine as bright as she did. She trusted that “God will take care of us,” just as she always reminded us. Psalm 16:5-6, “No the Lord is all I need. He takes care of me. My share in life has been pleasant; my part has been beautiful.” Aileen’s life has been abundantly beautiful and will echo far beyond her 83 years through her friends and family.

Aileen is survived by her daughter, Paula Paquette (Kevan); granddaughter, Sarah Johnson (Thomas); great grandchildren, Pack and Spence; sisters, Agnes Cantrell and Pansy Greer (Charles); numerous nieces & nephews, and great nieces & nephews.

In addition to her parents, Sarah and Dewey Watson, Aileen is preceded in death by her husband, Buck Buchanan; infant son, Donny Buchanan; sister, Angie Worley; and brothers, Amos, Lester, Jack, and Ford Watson.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, September 27th at 6:00pm at Harwood Home for Funerals and Cremation Services. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Burial will be in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain Ridge Health & Rehab Center at 611 Old US Hwy 70 East, Black Mountain, NC 28711, or Grove Stone Baptist Church, 1568 Grovestone Rd, Black Mountain, NC 28711.
