Alice Marie Schweitzer of Black Mountain passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, December 12, 2020.
Alice was born in West Point, Mississippi to Ruth and Dr. James Stewart on May 17, 1940. She graduated from Stetson University. Alice served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of Captain. Alice was a valued employee of the Biltmore Estate, serving in the Human Resources Department for more than 20 years before retiring. Alice was an active member of the Black Mountain Presbyterian Church where she was a lifetime member of the Presbyterian Woman.
Alice was a lover of the opera whose license plate read: ARIABUFF. She was proud of both of her boys and is remembered fondly by their childhood friends – many of whom participated in her virtual 80th birthday party recently, along with friends, family, and neighbors.
Alice is preceded in death by her father, James; her mother, Ruth; her sister, Bettie; and her brother-in-law, Donald.
Alice is survived by her sister, Bobbie; her sons, Robbie and Eric; her daughter-in-law, Anne; her granddaughter, Hannah; her nieces, Ruth, Marge, and Susan; and her nephews, James, Tom, and Joe.
She will be interred near her parents in a private ceremony. A celebration of life event will be planned in the summer.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that well-wishers donate to the Black Mountain Presbyterian Church.
Peace be with you.
