Obituary for Alvin Massey

Alvin Massey unexpectedly passed away on December 1, 2021 due to complications from COVID-19, with no underlying health concerns. He was a lifelong native of Buncombe County, and a graduate of Owen High School.

Alvin leaves behind Teresa, his loving wife of 50 years this upcoming January; his son Zack and his long-term girlfriend Allyson Gelnett; and his brother Earl Massey (wife Paula) and three nephews, Jonathon Massey, Chad Massey, and Josh Massey. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman, his mother, Junita, and his brother, David.

Alvin was born in Asheville, NC and grew up in Broad River and Black Mountain, until moving to Candler with his wife, Teresa. A beloved husband, father, son, and friend, everyone knew Alvin. He was a simple man, but a good man. A jokester, Alvin always walked around with a smile on his face. He was someone who loved people, and was intrigued by everyone he met.

Alvin owned his own construction company his entire life. He loved watching old western movies, fishing in Canada, hunting in the woods, working around the house, and spending time with Teresa and Zack. He was beyond proud of Zack for all of his accomplishments and his love of music and photography.

There wasn't a day that went by that Teresa didn’t hear Alvin talking on the phone with his family and friends. From the moment he set foot in the house after work, no matter the occasion, Alvin always had a story. From entertaining his buddy, Art on the phone or trying to distract his wife while she fixed dinner or texting his son about his latest Facebook post, Alvin was a man of stories and boy did he have stories for days.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alvin Massey Memorial Trust (https://www.alvinmasseymemorialtrust.com) is being setup to help organizations that mattered most to him.

A memorial to honor his life will be scheduled at a later date.

A life gone too soon, we will never forget Alvin.
