Obituary for Betty Brandon McMahan

Betty Brandon McMahan, 91 of Black Mountain passed away Saturday, October 1, 2022.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Black Mountain. Betty was a 1949 graduate of Black Mountain High School. Following graduation from Blanton’s Business College she began working at Beacon Manufacturing in Swannanoa where she worked as a secretary and for 38 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Black Mountain.

Betty was the daughter of George and Lora Moore Brandon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Pat Murphy McMahan; her brothers: Lawrence, Hugh, and Orville; and her sisters: Pearl Burnette, Beulah Brandon, and Evelyn Monteith.

She is survived by her stepsons: Michael McMahan (Janelle) and Jack McMahan (Rachel) both of Black Mountain; grandchildren: Brandon McMahan (Stephanie), Bradley McMahan (Hannah), and Emma Buchanan (Ray); and great grandchildren: Ellie McMahan, Raelynn and Rylee Buchanan, Gabriel Becker and Anastasia Luibel.

Special thanks are given to Great Niece, Barbara Burnette Miller for many years of care and compassion.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, October 6, 2022 in the chapel at the Western North Carolina Veterans Cemetery.
