Obituary for Bobby "Bob" Parks Welborn

Bobby “Bob” Parks Welborn, age 89, of Arden, NC, passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2021 from complications of Covid. Bobby was born on August 25, 1931 to Reba Parks Welborn and William “Bill” Welborn in Winston Salem, NC.

Bob had a successful career as a building inspector for Buncombe County for 27 years. After this career he opened his own business, Welborn & Associates, Environmental Consultants to test for hazardous environmental materials and advise on how to safely remove these materials. Bob worked in this field until he was well into his 80’s.

He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses where he met his wife, Carolyn Miller Welborn, and married in 1953. Carolyn passed away in February 2020. At her death, Bob and Carolyn had been married for 66 years.

Bobby was also preceded in death by his sister, Willie Sue Welborn Jones.

Bob is survived by his children, Brenda Welborn Bearden, Robert Keith Welborn (Jonni Sherman Welborn), and Rodney Brian Welborn (Carol Hall Welborn); five grandchildren, Clarissa Frangulescu, Amanda Roach, Brian Welborn, Matthew Welborn, and Harley Welborn; and three great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Leisey, Ashton Leisey, and Crayton Welborn.

Bob loved to meet new people and made friends everywhere he went. He always had a story to share from years gone by. He loved to tell a joke or pull a prank. Bob would captivate a room with his joyful laugh and most of the time would start laughing before the punch line. He was an avid fixer (piddler) of all things that could break or be built. He taught us all a life skill that we have used over and over. We are all so very lucky to have had Bob as a part of our lives.

A memorial service will be held for immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please make a donation in memoriam to the Piney Grove Cemetery, PO Box 216, Swannanoa, NC 28778.
