Obituary for David Allen Fessler
David A. Fessler of Asheville NC died November 12, 2019, at the age of 57 as a result of chronic illness.
The youngest of five children, David was born December 18, 1961, in Elgin, IL, to Merlyn (Clipper) and Bruce Fessler. He attended school and spent a large portion of his life in Addison, IL.
David was a remarkable man, meeting and overcoming severe medical challenges beginning at the tender age of 12. Despite the challenges of Aphasia and difficulty in walking, David never allowed his challenges to keep him from living a full life. David had the natural ability to build lasting and impactful relationships with others.
A lifelong man of faith, David was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Asheville, NC. He was faithful in daily prayer and Bible Study and truly knew the love of his Lord.
David was also a man of many passions. He had a lifelong love for the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. He enjoyed watching movies, loved Elvis, and always enjoyed riding his bike.
David is preceded in death by his lifelong friend George Tomczak, with whom David spent countless days enjoying their shared love of travel, Frisbee, and food.
David is survived by his mother, loving caretaker and best friend, Meryln Fessler, of Asheville; his sisters Patricia (James) Ward of Black Mountain, NC and Elizabeth McAdams of Streamwood, IL; and His brothers Michael (Susan) Fessler of Denison, TX, and Douglas (Karen) Fessler of Mars Hill, NC. David was a loving, devoted uncle, admired and inspired by his ten nieces and nephews, as well as his twenty-four great grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
A memorial service celebrating David’s life will be held on Saturday, December 7th at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 51 Wilbur Place, Asheville, NC beginning at 2:00 pm. A luncheon will follow the service.
