She is survived by her husband of 67 years, William Glenn (Bill) Cox, Sr. She leaves her son Glenn (Zee) of Black Mountain, NC, her daughter Susie Minor (Doug) of Port Orange, FL, and daughter Laura Cox of Robbinsville, NC. She also has four much loved grandchildren Melissa Cinelli (Mike) of Oxford, MS; Jessica Minor of Port Orange, DJ Minor of Port Orange; and Matthew Cox of Albuquerque, NM. Finally, she was blessed with two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Max Cinelli of Oxford, MS. Dee is also survived by her cousin Ginger Bucy, sisters-in-law Ethel and Nancy Davidson and six wonderful nieces and a nephew scattered across the Country.
Dee was a native of Swannanoa with family roots going back to its first settlers. She was the daughter of Samuel Frederick and Floy Mae Waddell Davidson of Bee Tree Road, Swannanoa. She was preceded in death by her brothers Jim, Freddy, Tarver (Brud), Chris, and Ritchie Davidson. Dee Mae, as she was known growing-up, graduated from Swannanoa Elementary and Lee Edwards (Asheville) High School before completing degrees at Mars Hill Jr. College followed by Furman University in 1955. Dee and Bill first met in the summer following her high school graduation at the Ridgecrest Assembly. They then reunited forever at Furman University. They were married in the Swannanoa Presbyterian Church on June 4, 1955. They settled in Atlanta, GA where they lived until 1978. While in Atlanta, they were early members of Wieuca Road Baptist Church where she taught second grade Sunday School for many years. In 1978, Dee and Bill relocated to Memphis, TN where they lived until 1996. In Memphis, they were active members of First Baptist and Trinity Baptist Churches. Coming full circle in 1996, Dee and Bill made their way back to the mountains of Western North Carolina in Black Mountain. Since 2014, Dee and Bill have lived at Given’s Highland Farms. Dee was an involved member of Kiwanis. As a member of the Black Mountain Presbyterian Church, she taught Sunday School, was active in Stephen Ministries and served as a Deacon.
Dee loved and was equally loved by her family and many friends. She leaves a void in all our hearts.
