Obituary for Dr. Robert George Boer

Dr. Robert George Boer, 53, flew Home to be with his Saviour, Jesus, on Tuesday, February 2, 2022, after a sixteen-year battle with a brain tumor. He joins his first child in heaven and is survived on earth by his wife of nearly 24 years, Keri; 17-year-old daughter, Emily; parents, Warner and Elisabeth Boer (Ontario); and three brothers with their wives and children (Harry and Jeff in Ontario, and Jonathan in British Columbia).

Rob fiercely loved his Lord, his family, and his friends, spending his life making and leading music to glorify God. A native of Simcoe, Ontario, Canada, Rob earned his Bachelor of Christian Studies in music and psychology from Redeemer University, ON. After teaching music as a private instructor for a couple of years, he moved to Iowa to attend Drake University for his Master of Music degree. He met Keri in the Fort Dodge Choral Society, and they were married at her childhood church, St. Olaf Lutheran, where he was Minister of Music. Rob completed his Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting degree from the University of Iowa while teaching at Montreat College, NC. He was the director of the music program at Montreat for seven years before seizures necessitated that he step down. He continued to teach part-time, established and conducted “Messiah in Montreat” for five years, and built “Dem Dry Bones,” a business hand-crafting musical bones.

Rob touched the lives of innumerable people with his faith, wit, and passion. Being Emily’s daddy and Keri’s husband were his most beloved roles. We miss him terribly but celebrate that he is rejoicing in full voice at the Throne of our King.

For friends who wish to pay their respects, the viewing will be Monday, February 7, 2022 from 1:00 to 2:30pm at Harwood Home for Funerals and Cremation Services.
