Obituary for Ethel Hudson (Mintz)

Ethel Mintz Hudson, 94, of Black Mountain, NC joined the church triumphant January 25, 2021 at Givens Highland Farms Healthcare in Black Mountain.

Ethel was born to Lee Roy and Mary White Mintz and raised in Rockmart, GA. She attended North Georgia College in Dahlonega and graduated from Mercer University, Macon, GA where she met and married J. Richard “Dick” Hudson, Jr. They enjoyed living in North Augusta, GA, Wilmington, NC, Asheville, NC, and Charlotte, NC before putting down deep roots in Black Mountain where she co-owned Black Mountain Insurance & Realty, Inc. with her husband, who preceded her in death in 2005.

Always a busy person, Ethel was active in the life of Black Mountain United Methodist Church. She enjoyed working and helping her elderly friends in the church and community, driving them to doctor appointments and a lunch out, driving for Meals on Wheels, and taking food to Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry. She and Dick provided space in their downtown building for the ministry in its infancy in 1975. People around town were always complimentary of her prowess in playing a hand of bridge.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Marguerite Mintz Jacobs and son-in-law, Jerry W. Sisk. Survivors include her sister, Anne Mintz Trimble of Rome, GA; daughter, Lee H. Sisk of Marion, NC; son, J. Richard Hudson, III and wife, Nancy of Black Mountain; grandchildren, Mary Beth Garrou and husband, Derrick, Margaret H. Cameron and husband, Corey, and Martha Jane Hudson and wife, Victoria Bunch; and great grandchildren, Avery Kate and Tucker Gray Cameron.

Due to the pandemic, a family only graveside service will be held. Memorials can be made to the Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry, Black Mountain United Methodist Church or a charity of one's choice.
