Obituary for Evelyn "Mama Evelyn" F. Huggins

Evelyn F. Huggins, known by many as “Mama Evelyn”, went home to be with the Lord on January 3, 2021.

Evelyn was born January 10, 1935 to the late Hugh Foster and Lillie McDowell. She was a graduate of Inman High School and Spartanburg General Hospital Nursing School. Evelyn was a Registered Nurse working at the VA Hospital, Sayles Biltmore Bleachery, and the Juvenile Evaluation Center until she retired as the Charge Nurse.

Evelyn was a second mother to many children in the Swannanoa Valley. She was a constant companion and enjoyed traveling with her husband, Frank. Evelyn was a lifelong member of Swannanoa Valley Presbyterian Church and served in many different capacities.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Franklin Huggins Jr.; son, Franklin Huggins III; daughter, Meg Huggins; brother, H. Duane Foster; grandsons, Matthew Huggins and Shannon Swann; and great grandchildren, Grayson, Kyle, Aiden, Harper, and Asher Huggins.

Due to Covid, a private celebration of life service will be held by the family at Valley Hope Presbyterian Church. The service will be streamed online at valleyhope.church/virtual on Wednesday, January 6 at 2:00pm.
