Hilda “Christeen” Smith White (95) went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 8, 2020. The family, whom she adored, was by her side and will miss this kind, gentle, and loving soul who was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. The family has peace in knowing that she is reunited with the love of her life of 63 years, Albert Lee White. They also rejoice in the promise that they will all be together again in Heaven.

The daughter of the late Floyd and Myrtle Smith, Christeen was born August 2, 1924 in Huntsville, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband, Al White; sister, Onva Taylor; and granddaughter, Jennifer White.

She is survived by her son, Marvin “Peck” White and daughter-in-law, Karen of Roswell, Georgia; daughter Germaine Hill and son-in-law, David of Black Mountain, North Carolina; grandchildren, Twila Brigman, Heidi Hill-Gardner (Matt), Candice White, and Russell White; great-grandchildren, Hillary Buice (Corey), Alivia, Tate, Chloe, Chesney, Maesyn, Hollynn, and Landri; she has a great-great grandson due in October; and a host of family and friends too numerous to mention.

Christeen moved to Black Mountain as a young girl where she quickly found herself at home. Her hard work ethic allowed her to purchase her first home at the age of 16. She was a long-time employee of Beacon and retired after over 30 years of dedicated service. Her caring heart led her to be a volunteer at Moore General Hospital which is how she met her loving husband who was being treated during WWII. They played bingo and danced their way in to each other’s hearts. The couple found their church home at First Baptist Church of Black Mountain where they were life-long members. Christeen could be found every Sunday attending her Sunday school class and attending preaching in one of her fancy hats.

The family will celebrate her life at a private ceremony and burial will be at the Western Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Mountain Ridge Wellness Center and CarePartners Hospice for their support and care.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to First Baptist Church of Black Mountain or the charity of choice.
