Ian Patrick Winne, 51, of Black Mountain, NC, formerly of Fairfax, VA, passed away suddenly from a heart attack on Friday, November 6. He was born on January 10, 1969 in Munich, Germany, son of the late Kenneth Michael Winne and Thea (VanderWaal) Winne.
At the time of his death, he was employed by FEMA as a Supply Management Specialist. His career also included past positions with Wells Fargo and Cardinal Health.
Ian graduated from W. T. Woodson High School in Fairfax, VA in 1987. He attended the University of Wilmington in North Carolina where he had received scholarships for both soccer and lacrosse. In 1997, he received his BA in speech communications from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA and he earned his MBA in 2016.
Ian was an avid sports fan and excellent athlete. Throughout his life he played soccer, enjoyed swimming, skiing and golfing, to name a few. He and his wife shared a love for hiking, the ocean, outdoor adventures and all types of music. The mountains of North Carolina gave them the opportunity to pursue many of these common interests and in 2012, they were married on the beach in Corolla, NC. Ian will be remembered for his fun sense of humor, love for life and music and his big heart.
Ian is survived by his wife, Michele (Ferry). He was a beloved brother to his sister, Patricia (Winne) Dimitri and his late brother, Brian William Winne. He was a wonderful uncle to nephews, Austin and Cole Dimitri, and is survived by many other family members including aunts, uncles and cousins in the Netherlands and Illinois.
Ian had countless friends who will hold the best of memories close in their hearts.
Ian’s zest for life and laughter was contagious. He will be deeply missed.
A celebration of life will be held Monday, June 28, 2021 at 11am at Millville United Methodist Church, 36405 Club House Road, Millville, DE 19967 with a reception to follow at the VFW Post, 29265 Marshy Hope Way, Ocean View, DE 19970.
