Obituary

James Allen (Jim) Harrington, Age 67, of Black Mountain, NC, passed away on April 9, 2020, at Memorial Mission Hospital. Mr. Harrington was born 10-20-1952 in Lee County, NC, but resided in Harnett County, NC. Jim attended Boone Trail High School and NC State University obtaining a Bachelors degree in Math. Jim worked for the Employment Security Commission as a Fraud Investigator for 17 years before studying Accounting at UNCA, Asheville, NC. Jim was a CPA and Revenue Agent with the IRS for 32 years. Jim worked for the LB&I Division for the last 10 years. Jim and his family have resided in the Black Mountain, NC, area for 25 years.

Jim attended Biltmore Baptist Church, East Campus, and was co-teacher of an adult married Connect Group. He loved to study the word of God and enjoyed memorizing scripture. He enjoyed singing in choirs, barbershop quartets, and working crossword puzzles while watching Bob Ross painting DVD’s (he didn’t paint, he just could relax to the voice). Jim had a heart for the widow and orphan and sponsored a child with Compassion International for the last 20 years. Jim was a loyal husband, great father, and a wonderful brother and son. He served on the board at Asheville Christian Academy and Orbie for Orphans. Jim’s interests were March Madness, the NC State Wolfpack, the World Series, German Shepherd Dogs, Rocking Chairs, John Deere Tractors, Faith, Family, Friends, Israel, and the USA. Jim’s greatest loves were his two daughters that he called the “Great One” and the “Mighty One” and he had a special bond with his brother who he loved dearly.

Jim is preceded in death by his Parents, Refus Roy Harrington and Pauline Kelly Harrington also of Harnett County, NC.

Surviving Family is Jim’s Bride, Pamela Coe Harrington of 39 years and daughters, Jamie Nicole Harrington of Black Mountain, NC, and Ashley Megan Harrington that resides in different locations throughout the year. Surviving Family also includes a younger brother, Anthony Ross Harrington of Harnett County, NC.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. A family graveside service will be at Mountain View Memorial Park in Black Mountain.

In lieu of flowers, please donate blood to the American Red Cross, sponsor a Compassion Child, or donate to Samaritan’s Purse World Relief or to Operation Christmas Child.

Special Thanks to the Doctors and Nurses at the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Memorial Mission Hospital. Their faithful determination and diligence was remarkable and touched our lives in so many ways. We also thank everyone for their expression of love through prayers, cards, and social media posts during social distancing. Jim will be greatly missed. Happy Easter!
