Obituary for James Henry Thomas, Sr.

James “Jim” Henry Thomas, Sr., age 91, a follower of Jesus Christ, was received by his Heavenly Father in the early hours of June 20, 2022, having been made worthy by the cleansing blood of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

James was born in Trion, GA but lived most of his adult life in Swannanoa. He worked at Beacon Manufacturing and retired from Charles D. Owen Manufacturing and later partnered with colleagues to form Mountain Embroidery. James was a long-time member of Swannanoa First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School, served as a deacon with many terms as the Chair, as well as search committees, and building committees. He was an avid reader and painter (oils) in his retirement years. He loved to talk to everyone and share the good news of his faith in the Lord often to those he encountered.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Archie Henry Thomas, and Maggie Mae (Grimes) Thomas; wife, Mary Sue (Williams) Thomas; son, James Henry Thomas, Jr.; sisters, Bonnie Ruth Fleming, Katie Mae Ledbetter, and Iva Nell Williams; and brothers, Marion Glenn Thomas, Herman Myers Thomas, and Ralph Alexander Thomas.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Dana Michelle Davis (Douglas) of Fletcher; sons, Samuel Williams Thomas (Susanna) of El Paso, TX, and Matthew Myers Thomas (Darla) of Sanford, NC; grandchildren, Nathan Davis (Leslie), Jessica Davis (Jeanne), Josiah Thomas, Jared Thomas, Carissa Thomas (Tony), and Joshua Thomas; and great grandchildren, Laurel Davis, Leah Davis, Aaron Davis, Isaac Davis, Samuel Thomas, Lana Lucas, Summer Lucas, and Lillian Lucas.

A celebration of life service will be held at Swannanoa First Baptist Church on Friday, June 24, 2022 at 2:00 PM, with visitation immediately following in the sanctuary. Dr. Jeff Dowdy, Rev. Ed Hillman, and Dr. Sam Thomas will be officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Park.
