Obituary for Jean Eva Stafford

Jean Eva Stafford, 87 died peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 18, 2023, loving God, her family, and extended family of friends.

She was born February 14, 1935 to parents, Howard and Geneva Rogers, in a simple cabin at her grandparents, Bernard and Estus Higgins, in Pinners Cove of Buncombe County, NC. She came into this world a sweetheart and remained that way to all who came in contact with her.

Though working at various manufacturing companies, Beacon, Kearfott, Tandy and Kunkle Valve, she first and foremost was a beloved homemaker. Her quiet, gentle, loving, nurturing and self-sacrificing nature was shared always. She was a seamstress and baker extraordinaire, making sure every person in her circle of love had one of her specialty creations at birthdays and especially Christmas which she adored. She would be found tirelessly at her sewing machine creating beautiful clothes for her family and even made costumes and band uniforms for her hubby, Charlie's, band members to perform in. She loved gardening, hiking and sightseeing these awesome mountains, but most of all beloved Lake James. There she spent countless hours camping and fishing with her beloved husband and family. Never complaining, yet funny thing was, she was totally frightened of water. This never stopped her from spending those times with us though. She still has beloved friends becoming like family from the campground where she had at Goodman's Cove and Lake James Landing.

She is survived by her daughter, Debra (Paul) Kelly who lived with her in the home these last 8 years; sister, Margaret Ann Flowers; brother, Roger A. (Faye) Rogers; grandson, Bryan Angel of Surf City, NC; step grandchildren, Jennifer Kelly of Surf City, NC, Alison (Scott) Justice of Lexington, KY and heart loved Jennifer (David) Workman of Wake Forest, NC; great grandchildren, Dylan Blankenship, Brittany (Colter) Smith, Ashley Blizzard, Wade Blizzard, Christian Justice, Destiny and David Ryan Workman; two great-great grandchildren, Emma and Tucker Smith; beloved brother-in-law, Abel Andy Stafford; sisters-in-law, Bernice and Sue Rogers. Not to be forgotten, numerous beloved special nieces and nephews who were blessed to be watched over carefully by her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved musician and husband, Charles (Charlie) Stafford of 53 years total togetherness; son, Phillip Reed; brothers, Henry and Charles Rogers; sisters-in-law, Brenda Barker and Betty Mae Stafford.

The family will receive friends Monday, January 23, 2023 from 1pm to 2pm at Buckeye Baptist Church, Swannanoa with a Celebration of Life Service immediately following. Pastor Ken Rhinehart will be officiating. Burial will follow the service at Mountain View Memorial in Black Mountain.

Flowers are welcome and loved, but also requested for those who are able to make a donation to Four Seasons Hospice, NC Baptist Disaster Recovery through Buckeye Baptist Church or American Cancer Society.

Family wishes to express extreme appreciation to the staff of Four Seasons Hospice Center.

Until we meet again, enjoy the never-ending beauty of lakes, dancing and fishing, sweet Jean.
