Obituary for John Duncan Kitchen

John Duncan Kitchen passed away on February 11, 2022 in Augusta, GA.

He was born on June 9, 1940 in Black Mountain, North Carolina to William Kitchen and Mabel Tolley. He lived in Black Mountain, NC where he met his wife of 31 years, Doris Lorraine Kitchen (Harvey).

He served honorably in the United States Army and Navy. He served multiple tours in Vietnam and in Germany. Following his honorable discharge from the both the Army and Navy, he began a new career as a Surgical Technician at the VA hospital in Asheville, NC and retired after 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Lorraine Kitchen (Harvey); sisters Katherine Kitchen Bartlett and Willie Jean Padgett and brothers, Bobby and Ray Kitchen.

John is survived by his sons, John Joseph Kitchen and his wife and children Debbie, Isabella, John and Joseph; Jason Lee Kitchen and his wife and children Caitlin, Grayson, and Eli; sisters, Betty Richardson and Pearl Blankenship.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 21, 2022 from 1:00-1:45 p.m. at Harwood Home for Funerals. He will be laid to rest at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to a Veterans' charity of your choice in his name.
