Obituary for Lonnie Gray McCollum
Lonnie Gray McCollum, 88, of Arden, went home to be with the Lord on April 21, 2023.
Lonnie was born September 30, 1934, in Davie County, NC to the late Oliver Gray and Elizabeth Kiger McCollum. After serving 35 years with the NC State Highway Patrol, Lonnie retired as Lieutenant of Troop G; and he was a member of First Baptist Church, Asheville. Lonnie was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Margaret Branon McCollum; grandchildren, David and Sarah Dougherty; and brothers, Clifford, Elwood and Eugene McCollum.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Mark McCollum (Pam) and Susan Dougherty; sisters, Dorothy Shore, Brenda Brown (Archie), Carol Parker, and Kay Davis (Mitch); granddaughter, Kaitlyn McCollum DeBerardino (Joey); and great grandson, Colt DeBerardino.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 25, 2023 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at First Baptist Church, Asheville. A celebration of life service will immediately follow at the church with Rev. Leah Brown and Rev. Mack Dennis officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Park in Black Mountain.
