Margie Elizabeth Atkinson Walker, “Shorty”, 94, of Swannanoa passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side January 6, 2023. She is now resting in the arms of Jesus and getting to see family again that she so dearly loved.

Margie was born December 28, 1928 to the late Roland H. Atkinson and Edna Kennedy Atkinson in Marion, SC. She grew up in Greensboro, NC where she raised her family and worked as a secretary for several different companies including Sealtest, Pomona Pipe, and MBF. She moved to WNC in 2000 to be closer to family. Margie worked for Davidson Family Homes in Swannanoa retiring at the young age of 87 and continued to be involved with Special Olympics. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Black Mountain where she helped with the Special Ministries Sunday School Class. Margie was a devoted mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed. She was “Grandma Shorty” to many who loved her!

In addition to her parents, Margie is preceded in death by her brother, Ray Atkinson and daughter, Marcia Denise Walker.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Bill Walker (Jann) of Swannanoa; brother, Bobby Atkinson (Evelyn) of Randalman, NC; granddaughter, Jennifer Walker of Swannanoa; grandsons, Michael Walker (Rachel) of Havertown, PA, and Rob Walker (Clare) of Woodburn, OR and great grandsons, Will, Wyatt, Silas, and Ethan Walker.
