Nancy Trammell Rosell, of Black Mountain, passed away peacefully at the Keever Solace Center on May 6, 2019. She was 92.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lee Rosell, her parents, Andrew and Evelyn Trammell, her four siblings, Jeanne, Jack, Carel, and Ted, and her son-in-law, Doug Wooten. She is survived by her four children, Elaine, Kurt, Carolyn (Dwight), and Bobbi. In addition, she has 5 grandchildren (Cristi, Lindsey, Allen, Grace, and Hannah) and 3 great-grandchildren (Brianna, Jordan, and Abella).

Nancy was born in Pensacola, FL, and was raised in Des Moines, IA. She had a lifelong fighting spirit and saw her way through much adversity, including multiple wars. She was proudly patriotic with a long family history of military service. She and her husband, a Korean War veteran, met while working at the same company in Dayton, OH.

Nancy lived in several states over the years, including Iowa, Ohio, Florida, and North Carolina. Much of her life was spent in NC, when her family moved from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, to Asheville, and then, a year later, to Black Mountain. Over the years, she traveled all over the US with her husband, compiling a wealth of genealogical information, which was immensely important to her.

She attended Theodore Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, where she was a member of the women’s swim team. She attended the University of Iowa for two years and spent most of her time working as a secretary in numerous industries, including Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Continental Insurance, and Montreat College, where she was the Secretary to the Dean of Students. She then worked with her husband in his accounting firm, Valley Accounting Service, which is now managed by her youngest daughter, Bobbi.

Nancy was a kind and compassionate woman with a gentle yet feisty spirit. She loved her family and always wanted them nearby. Her faith was strong and an integral part of her life. Physically active for most of her life, her favorite pastime was gardening. She had a lifelong love of cats and other animals. She will always be remembered by those who loved her and whose lives she touched, even in the seemingly smallest of ways.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to one of two charities: the WNC Bridge Foundation through their website at:, or the Dementia Society of America at

The family will receive friends May 9, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm with a celebration of life service immediately following. Burial will be Monday, May 13, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

There aren’t enough words to express my love for you. You were so good. The best grandmother a girl could have. Always so supportive, always so kind. Your love for me was special, and I will miss you terribly! These are the last pictures I took with you. I had been told your memory faded, but when I took out the camera you knew just what to do! This night, just 14 days ago, and you were restless. We stayed up until 3am! Rebal woman! I showed you pictures of my babies, and you smiled. I don’t know why you chose me to speak to last, but I am so honored that you did. I will never forget the amazing gift you gave me, to be able to hear your sweet voice once more. I love you SO much! Rest In Eternal Paradise next to grandpa, my beautiful Grandmother.

XoXo Always,

Mom and Grandma-here are some of our favorite photos of you that show your love of travel (you and Dad saw all but how many states?:), your love of family, your love for Dad and Lake Lure, and the best cartographer on the planet! We will miss your beautiful spirit and amazing stories, your quiet but beautiful laugh, the Ivory Girl skin, Emeraude perfume, the only woman we know who cleaned every nook and cranny with a toothbrush, your love for eating out, and your gardening prowess. You defined the greatest generation. Thank you for being a strong woman that leaves a legacy for eternity.
