Obituary for Paul Hayden Smiley
Paul Hayden Smiley, 93, of Asheville, went home to be with the Lord on May 17, 2023.
Paul was born August 4, 1929 in Bryson City, NC to the late Ernest and Essie Keith Smiley. He was a veteran of the US Army and longtime member of Grassy Branch Baptist Church. Paul loved singing Gospel music, singing in the choir, playing the piano, and fly fishing. He retired from Southern Tile and volunteered at the Charles George VA Medical Center. Paul was a simple man who was the epitome of a Christian. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sons, Paul Davidson Smiley and Keith Robinson; and sister, Marjorie “Pete” Smiley Gibson.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 44 years, Barbara Galloway Smiley; children, Kim Dunlap, Karen Brooks, and Kevin Robinson (Caroline); brother, Bill Smiley (Mary); sister, Colleen Calhoun; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday, May 21, 2023 from 5:30 to 6:30pm at Grassy Branch Baptist Church. A celebration of life service will immediately follow at the church with Pastor Lonnie Ray and Pastor Allen Rash officiating. Burial will be in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grassy Branch Baptist Church, 499 Riceville Road, Asheville, NC 28805 or Trinity Baptist Church, Children’s Fund, 216 Shelburne Road, Asheville, NC 28806.
