Obituary for Rev. Jim Wilson

Rev. Jim Wilson (James Harold) of Black Mountain, North Carolina passed from this life to his eternal home in Heaven with Jesus early Saturday morning July 30, 2022.

He had survived major cancer surgery at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC, but in the end as he was recovering in the hospital it was an attack on his big heart that caused him to take his last breath on earth and first breath in Heaven.

He was the only son of Dr. & Mrs. T.W. Wilson (of Montreat, North Carolina before they went to Heaven) and was born in Dothan, Alabama on April 8, 1944. He attended Dothan High School. He was a 1962 graduate of Hampden DuBose Academy in Zellwood, Florida and a 1966 graduate of Wheaton College in Illinois. He earned an M.Div. from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. While living there, he married Johanna (“Joey”) Carr. They served in ministry in Kentucky, Florida, and Texas. However, most of his life was dedicated to his ministry as an evangelist around the world. His greatest passion in life was sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ in hopes of leading as many people to the One who loved and saved him.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Richard Thomas; his parents, Dr. T.W. and Mary Helen Wilson; and his brother-in-law, Dr. Jerry Pereira.

He is survived by his wife, Joey; their four daughters, Angie Bledsoe (Byron), Mary “Christy” Andrews (Todd), Katherine “Katie” Hsaio (Michael), and Laurie Monterosso (Nick); 18 grandchildren; multiple great-grandchildren; his only sister, Sally Wilson Pereira, her daughters, Emily Meyer (David) and Mary Pereira, as well as their children; along with many cousins and friends.

Jim retired to Black Mountain, North Carolina after living many years in Orlando, Florida and attended Mountain View Baptist Church.

He was beloved and will be sorely missed until his loved ones in Christ meet him again one day in Heaven. His final words sum up his entire life: “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”

A celebration of life service is planned for Sunday, August 7 at 3:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church Swannanoa (503 Park Street, Swannanoa, NC 28778) with a receiving of friends reception in the Family Life Center to follow. A private burial is planned at Mountain View Memorial Park in Black Mountain, North Carolina.
