Reverend Clifton James Taylor of Asheville, NC, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 10, 2021. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Shirley Young Taylor; sisters, Cynthia Honeycutt and Martha Lanier. He is survived by his wife, Maxine McKinney Taylor; sister, Audrey Murphy; daughter, Lisa Taylor Edwards and husband, Ronnie Edwards; son, Timothy James Taylor; stepdaughter, Marla McKinney Ball and husband, Sam Ball; stepson, Christopher McKinney and wife, Anabelle McKinney; grandchildren, Alex Chapman and wife, Katrina Chapman, Davey A. Edwards, Jessica McKinney, Ryan Ball, and Brooke Ball; and great granddaughter, Isadora (Izzy) Chapman.

A native of Duplin County NC, Clifton was a veteran of the U.S. Military who served our country in the Army Reserve stationed at Fort Knox, KY. He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who will always be remembered for his kind spirit, generosity and incredible sense of humor. He had the ability to make anyone laugh and smile and always with a mischievous grin. He was a true renaissance man, able to learn and master anything that he found to be interesting. A former business owner with a passion for cars of all makes and models. A skilled auto body repairman / painter, mechanic, woodworker, carpenter and a talented artist. One of the greatest joys of his life was working with and passing on his knowledge to his grandsons, Alex and Davey.

He also served as the assistant pastor of North Asheville Baptist Church in the late 70’s and early 80’s. But above all else, he will be remembered for the unconditional love that he had for every member of his family. Although he is no longer with us on this earth, his legacy, his words of wisdom and life lessons will continue on for generations through his family that he loved and cherished so dearly.

He was a devout Christian and a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church for over 45 years. The family would also like to thank the staff and his friends at PACE as well as the staff of Fleshers of Fairview Health Care Facility for their kindness and compassion.

A graveside service will be held at Green / Young Cemetery in Bakersville, N.C. on Monday, February 15, 2021 at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Hearts with Hands through Trinity Baptist Church - 216 Shelburne Rd, Asheville, NC 28806.
