Richard Davidson Bucy, 65, found peace and comfort after an extended illness January 24, 2020. Richard was committed to those he loved and exhibited his strong will to survive while enduring his fight.
Richard was a lifelong resident of Swannanoa, NC and a graduate of Charles D. Owen High School. He loved his home and family greatly. He was employed at C.P. Clare Mfg., Fairview, NC, self-employed in Residential and commercial Restoration and retired from the Juvenile Evaluation Center, Swannanoa, NC. Richard was a talented guitarist and vocalist and enjoyed music immensely, particularly his time as a founding member of the band “Flyer”. He loved his many pets, enjoyed fishing, gardening and was an excellent cook. Richard was also known for his quick wit and hilarious sense of humor. His favorite respite destination was Ocracoke Island and the NC Outer Banks, which was, in a sense, his home away from home. His love for the NC Coast was easily apparent to those who knew him well. He was thoughtful, generous and kind.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Bucy; and sister, Patty Bucy Link.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Barbara Hullar Bucy; mother, Virginia Bucy; brother, Steve Bucy and his wife, Lenna; nieces, Alicia Bucy Mayer (Paul) and Lilly, Ashley Bucy Dropkin (Jordan) and Hudson, Madison Link and Isabella; nieces and nephews, Johnny, Sarah, Jillian, Megan, Matt and Rachel; as well as numerous close relatives and friends.
His family wishes to express gratitude to the many friends, family, caregivers and loved ones who so thoroughly enriched Richard’s life.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 11:00am at Valley Hope Church, formerly Swannanoa Valley Presbyterian Church.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
Burial will be in Piney Grove Cemetery.
Flowers are welcomed and memorials may be made to Hearts with Hands, Samaritans Purse, or a local animal shelter of your choice.
