Obituary for Richard Avery Ramsey

Richard Avery Ramsey, 54 of Black Mountain, passed away unexpectedly April 25, 2023. Richard was the youngest son of the late Jack and Dot Ramsey. He was born and raised in Black Mountain and in his adult life had lived and worked in Greenville, SC, Washington DC, Indianapolis, IN and up until recently Charlotte, NC.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack W. Ramsey, Jr. and Dorothy A. Ramsey, sisters Teresa Ramsey and Mona Robinson and brother, Jack Ramsey, III.
Left to cherish his memory are his sister Alyson Ramsey-Laudenslayer (Joe), niece, Morgan Robinson, nephews, Jack Ramsey IV, Jered Ramsey, Seth Robinson and four great nephews and one great niece. He has two maternal aunts, Mona Williams of Traveler’s Rest, SC, and Diane Ylitalo of Black Mountain, who he loved dearly and many other extended family members and dear friends.
Richard had a career in music ministry in numerous capacities for over 30 years. He was drawn to music and the powerful effect it can have on people to uplift, inspire, comfort, and heal. Richard enjoyed collaborating with countless other talented musicians throughout his life and career. He was a skilled and talented pianist and filled many services, events, and school musicals with beautiful music.
Richard will be remembered for his gentle soul and open and loving heart. He never met a stranger and loved all people. He was intelligent, fun loving and had a witty personality bringing joy, smiles, and laughter to many.
A celebration of life service will be planned for a later date. Richard strongly supported the Arts in schools. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to The Learning Community School (TLC) or Owen High School Theatre.
