Obituary for Rita Ann Hoefling

Rita Ann Hoefling, 85, of Black Mountain, went home to be with the Lord on July 29, 2022.

Rita was born October 21, 1936, in Kenosha, WI to the late Nicholas and Stella Buttera. She served in the US Air Force as a Flight Attendant and is a member of St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church. Rita enjoyed reading and loved her favorite dog, Patch. She was a dedicated family person who was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister and will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Leonard and Chucky Buttera.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 66 years, Donald Henry Hoefling; children, Julie Pennell-Nicholson (John H. Nicholson, Jr.), Donald David Hoefling, and Jamie Daniel Hoefling; siblings, Florence Hammelev, Michaeleen Hernandez, and Joseph Buttera; grandchildren, Charles David Pennell, Allison Jade Hoefling, Roman Daniel Hoefling, and Hallie Anastasia Hoefling; and great grandson, Beckett Charles Pennell.

A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at 8:30am at St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Brian Becker officiating. Burial will follow at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
