Obituary for Roberta (Bobbie) S. Williams

Roberta (Bobbie) S. Williams, age 85, passed away on March 30th, 2022 after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Ann Williams and her grandmother, Connie Williams. She is survived by her sister Joan (Bill) Uhrich, her brother Jim (Annette) Williams, one niece and four nephews: Connie (Carson), Michael (Amy), Stephen (Stephanie), Kevin (Lesa), Clay (Bonnie) and their families.

Bobbie had a long career as a librarian. She obtained an undergraduate degree and master’s degrees in English and in Library Science. She lived for three years in Kano, Nigeria where she was instrumental in the establishment of a new library. She also worked in public and college libraries in Bakersfield, Calif. and in Greensboro, Kenansville, Brevard, and Mars Hill – all in North Carolina. She ended her career in Mars Hill in 2002 and retired to Tryon, NC.

Bobbie held leadership positions in the N.C chapter of Pilot Club, a business and professional woman’s organization. She was an avid sports fan – especially if UNC Chapel Hill were involved. She maintained lifelong friendships everywhere she lived. She was an expert writer, an accomplished quilter, and a great cook. Homemade mints were her trademark. She always had a beloved cat in her home. She especially enjoyed tutoring young children in elementary school classrooms after her retirement. Bobbie loved traveling with friends and family in both this country and abroad. She will be fondly remembered as a person who was generous in sharing herself and her talents with others.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Donations to honor her memory may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, P.O. Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043 or to Four Seasons Hospice Foundation, 211 N. Main St., Hendersonville, NC 28792 or to any animal shelter of the donor’s choice.
