Obituary for Sandra Lee Pearson

Sandra Lee Pearson, age 64, of Black Mountain passed away on Monday, November 4, 2019 following a battle with cancer. She was born on October 18, 1955 in Melbourne, Florida but lived most of her life in Buncombe County. She was preceded in death by her mother, Frances Avena McElrath of Black Mountain; father, Bill Tom Pearson of Cloquet, Minnesota; and life-long friend, Lewis Ellison of Old Fort.

Surviving are three sisters, Mary McElrath and Susan McElrath of Black Mountain, and Bobbie Jo Webb (Darrel) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; a brother, Charles Pearson (Janine) of Moscow, Kansas; an uncle, Robert Pearson of Esko, Minnesota; three nieces and two nephews.

Sandy was a 1973 graduate of Charles D. Owen High School, and she studied Horticulture at Haywood Community College. For most of her career, she was employed as a supervisor in the Landscape department for the NC Department of Transportation. Sandy enjoyed music, storytelling, and watching football, both collegiate and professional.

After suffering a stroke in 2007, Sandy resided in nursing homes, most recently Mountain Ridge Health and Rehab in Black Mountain where she made many friends and loved the caring and compassionate staff.

An informal graveside burial service will be held on Friday, November 8th at 2pm in Mountain View Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, November 16th at 2pm in the Bird Room at Mountain Ridge Health and Rehab, the Reverend Mary Katherine Robinson will officiate. All family, close friends, and nursing home staff are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice.
