Shirley C. Bartlett of Black Mountain, N.C. passed away quietly on September 16, 2019 from complications of dementia.
Ms. Bartlett was born in Wilmington, N.C. on July 5, 1932 to William C. and Nettie B. Cochran. She graduated from New Hanover High School in 1951 and moved to Asheville to join her sister Jeanette. She attended the Mission Hospital School of nursing, completing the course in 1954. In her 50-year nursing career, she performed a variety of duties including floor nursing and operating room. Upon moving to Black Mountain in 1966, she worked as an occupational health nurse at Northrop Carolina (now Chemtronics) and Beacon Manufacturing. She retired from ADAC.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her 5 siblings, her first husband, Raymond G. Maleski of Edwardsville, PA and her second husband, James T. “Tommy” Bartlett of Black Mountain, N.C. and two nephews.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Maleski of Atlanta, G.A., a niece and a nephew and a number of great and great great grandnieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday September 28 at 10 AM in the Assembly Room at Givens Highland Farms, 200 Tabernacle Rd., Black Mountain.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to Bounty and Soul, an organization that provides fresh fruits and vegetables along with nutrition counseling.

Dear Susan, I am so sorry to hear about your dear mom Shirley. I really don't know how I didn't hear about her passing. I sure do have fond memories of your mom and Jeanette when we were living at the motel and working at the Coach House. I remember you and your mom and Jeanette coming over for dinner and or parties. Sorry to hear this news. Shirley was a wonderful nurse & friend to so many at Beacon. She was so helpful and genuine and seemed loved by all. God bless Shirley & family!!
