Obituary for Shirley Stone Melton

Shirley Stone Melton went to be with the Lord early Saturday morning, March 26, surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley was born in Asheville, NC, on June 8, 1935, to James Henry and Hattie Allen Stone. In addition to her parents, she is proceeded in death by her two sisters, nine brothers and beloved husband of 43 years, Calvin Melton.

Shirley loved her family more than anything. She is known for spoiling her five grandchildren, her extensive giraffe collection, her love for flowers and her home-cooked meals. Anyone that was lucky enough to know her knew that Shirley had the kindest and most selfless heart.

She is survived by her two children, Tanya Banks (Billy) of Swannanoa and Kevin Melton (Sonya) of Black Mountain; and her five grandchildren, Ethan, Alyssa, Lindsey, Logan and Eli.

Family visitation will be held Tuesday, March 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Homer’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Black Mountain.

A celebration of life service will be held at Homer’s Chapel on Wednesday, March 30, at 11 a.m. with Pastors Caleb Davis, Carl Miller and Doug Mathis officiating. Burial will be held directly after at Mountain View Memorial Park.

Flowers are accepted and appreciated. The family asks for thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
