Obituary for Shirley "Yvonne" Lehman

Shirley “Yvonne” Lehman, age 85, passed away on Friday, May 7, 2021. She was born in Piedmont, SC in Anderson County, but lived most of her life in Black Mountain, NC. She is preceded in death by her mother, Melvia Fox; father, M.F. Prince; husband, Howard Lehman; and daughter, Lisa Wilson.

Surviving family are daughters, Lori Lehman Marett (Rodney) of Black Mountain, and Cindy Lehman Wilson (Steve) of Anderson, SC; son, David Lehman of Black Mountain, NC; grandchildren, John Wilson, Paul Wilson, Emily Marett Disco (Andy), Savannah Marett, Celeste Marett, Stephen Lehman, Rebekah Lehman, Luke Lehman, and Simon Wilson; and great-grandchildren, Rory Disco and Alice Disco.

Yvonne Lehman was a prolific author, receiving a BA in English Literature from UNC-Ashville in 1986 and a master’s degree in English from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC, in 1991. She is the founder and former director of the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference for 25 years, the Blue Ridge Novel Retreat for 12 years and is the author of 59 novels. Yvonne Lehman is also compiler and editor of 16 books in the Moments Book Series in which all proceeds go to Samaritan’s Purse, a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. The family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Samaritan’s Purse www.samaritanspurse.org.

Due to Covid restrictions, the family will not be receiving friends; however, the family encourages those who wish to honor Yvonne Lehman’s life to share their fondest memories of her on her Facebook page.
