Sid spent his working years as a weaver at Beacon Manufacturing Company, and was previously employed with Girmes Corporation of America, Pony Express Courier Service, Wachovia Bank Courier Corporation, Orkin, Bunny Bread, and Sunny Acres Arabian Horse Farms. He enjoyed coon hunting, raising black and tan coon hounds, baseball, old cars, working on Studebakers, gardening, and yard work; and he was an avid Cubs and Yankees fan. Sid was a devoted Republican, and member of Bee Tree Christian Church, Swannanoa United Methodist Church, and Swannanoa Church of Christ (Disciples) and most recent The Veterans Community Church at the N.C. State Veterans Home.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph Foy Bartlett and Mary Josephine Fox Bartlett, Charles Rueben Bass and Mary Elizabeth Goldsmith Bass, and sister Mary Joan Bass Boan.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 66 years, Dolores Linda Edwards Bass; children, Margaret Elizabeth Bass denHeijer (Charles), Joseph Sidney “Jody” Bass (Sonya), and Mary Josephine Bass Adams (Sheldon); grandchildren, Joseph Stephen Bass, Johnathan Noah Bass, Sydney Briann Adams Ford (Caleb), and Lucas Marc Adams; great granddaughter, Annabelle Ray Bass and several nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held by the family at Bee Tree Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of the NC State Veterans Home, Chaplain Jack Taylor of The Veterans Community Church and the staff of Four Seasons Hospice. In lieu of flowers the family would request a memorial donation to be made to the Asheville humane society.
