Steven W. Wonson, age 70, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, November 4, 2021, after health complications following a heart attack.
Steve is survived by his wife of 48 years, Karen S. Staup Wonson, and their two grown children: Brian K. Wonson (46), and Stephanie L. Daniels Wonson (45), and Sandra K. Wonson Smith (45), and William C. Smith (52). He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Makenzie A. Greer (20), Makayla R. Greer (19), Madalynne R. Greer (19), Hunter C. Wonson (18), Hailey R. Wonson (16), and Mason R. Smith (5).
Steve is a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned several medals, including the Purple Heart. He grew up in Mentor, Ohio the second oldest son of Donald F. Wonson (Deceased) and Gerda A. Wonson (94), Brother, Donald Wonson (Deceased), Richard A. Wonson (Deceased), Craig H. Wonson and his wife, Joanne Wonson.
As a child, he learned construction from his father. As he grew older, his life's work was in construction where he was a local member of the Ohio Carpenters Union #95-235. After working numerous locations including the Perry, Ohio Nuclear Power Plant, he went on to build two custom homes for his family.
Steve’s family know him as kind, loving and selfless. He had a great sense of humor and loved a good “dad joke”. Through the years, Steve has had many hobbies including fishing, gold mining, architecture and design, gunsmithing, and a lifelong love of reading Western and Suspense books. Throughout Steve's life, his strong faith in God and his love for his family have stood as a testament and will remain a large part of his legacy.
Services will be held Thursday, November 10, 2021, at 1:30 pm EST at Harwood Home for Funerals, and he will be laid to rest at 2:00 pm EST at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC.
