Obituary for Willis Duke Weatherford III

Willis Duke Weatherford III, of Black Mountain, NC, passed away the first week of December 2022. He ended his life after a long struggle with mental illness. Born April 12, 1960, he was 62 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis Duke Weatherford Jr. and Anne Weatherford. He is survived by siblings Edith, Julia, Susan, and Alice, as well as his former wife, Jane Turnbull Weatherford, and their children Taylor (Millie) Weatherford, Willis (Mary) Weatherford IV, and Susanna (Paul) Adams, and eight grandchildren.

Will is remembered with love by his family for his faith in Jesus Christ, compassion for the hurting, and loving service to his family, neighbors, and church. Born in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, he was a longtime resident of Madison County, KY. Will obtained degrees in Agriculture and Chemistry at Berea College in Berea, KY. He was a longtime member and past deacon and elder at Tates Creek Presbyterian Church in Lexington, KY. He was a skilled craftsman and photographer, and an outdoorsman who truly loved God’s creation. Will impacted many lives as a deacon and shepherding elder of the church. An eagle scout himself, Will was a scoutmaster of Troop 226 for many years, and a neighbor who never shrank from hard work in service of another.
