Alan Ferguson Taylor, 73, of Black Mountain, died November 13, 2014, with his family by his side.
He was born July 15, 1941, to former Congressman Roy A. Taylor and wife, Evelyn.
He is survived by his wife, Guydana of the home; sister, Toni Robinson and husband, Dr. John F. Robinson of Blowing Rock; daughters, Stacey and husband, Chris Ferrell of Raleigh, Stephanie and husband, David Goodwin of Columbia, SC; Amber and husband, Warren Whiteside; son, Kenny Lance and wife, Kristina all of Asheville; five grandchildren; and two nephews.
Mr. Taylor was a graduate of Mississippi State University and served in Vietnam with the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the American Legion and the Moose Lodge 1428 of Marion. He later retired from the State of North Carolina Employment Security Commission.
As a resident of Black Mountain, he and his wife enjoyed being members of St. James Episcopal Church. They also took pleasure in spending time with their family, friends, neighbors and beloved pets.
A private graveside service will be held at Green Hills Cemetery in Asheville. A memorial service will follow on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 11:00 am at St. James Episcopal Church located at 424 West State Street in Black Mountain.
