Obituary for Margaret Byrd Metcalf

Margaret Byrd Metcalf
Margaret Matheson Byrd Metcalf made her journey to God on March 1st, 2015.
She was much loved by everyone who knew her. She was sweet, kind, loving, generous, and always loved God.
A Buncombe County native, she was born to the late Grayson and Nora Towe Matheson. She was also preceded in death by 6 brothers and 3 sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Wood of California; and her son, Robert Byrd of Texas.
She has 4 grandchildren, Nathan Wood, Robert Wood, Cindy Morgan, and Heather Byrd. She has 8 great grandchildren, Robbie Wood, Cory Wood, Tyler Morgan, and Nicholas Morgan (deceased), Mitchell Wood, Emma Wood, Chace Hollett and Triston Byrd; and 1 great-great granddaughter, Delaney Wood.
She was married to Robert R. Byrd when
she was 17. They were married for over half a century, until he went to be with God. She then married Donald Metcalf who went to be with God a year ago to the date. In that marriage, she was blessed with 4 daughters, whom she loved as her own; daughter and best friend Carolyn Grogan, Peggy Yoder, Anita Hawkins, Martha Metcalf (deceased); a son, Johnny Metcalf (deceased); and extended family and very special friends, Julie Collins and Mary Hines.
She was loved and respected by all who knew her, and will always be with us in our hearts.
Our special thanks to the staff at Mountain Ridge who lovingly cared for her for two years.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 11:00 am at Mountain View Memorial Park.
