Aliye Emel Ozgencer Buchanan, 88, of Duluth, Georgia, passed away Monday, April 13, 2015.
She was born Oct. 6, 1926, in Istanbul, Turkey, the daughter of the late Hikmet and Peyman Nimet Ozgencer.
After completing high school in Istanbul, she attended technical college for two years, studying clothing pattern-making and design. She was a tailor and Turkish cooking instructor in Dallas, Texas, and a homemaker. She was a member of the Turkish-American Association in Dallas and Atlanta.
She was preceded in death by her spouse, George Jackson Buchanan, her husband of 50 years; and by her sister, Yildiz Orhun of Istanbul.
She is survived by her daughter, Bonny Peyman Shulse; son-in-law, Steven Shulse; and granddaughter, Bonny Peyman Shulse of Sandy Springs, Ga.; and sisters, Sevim Strahm of Westminster, Calif., and Tulay Blair of Laguna Nigel, Calif.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 20, at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, N.C.
