Obituary for Dorothea McCuen (McCurry)

After almost 100 years of a life well-lived, our precious mother and grandmother went home Tuesday, October 6, 2015.
Dorothea McCurry McCuen was born in Canton, NC on November 29, 1915 and lived most of her life in Buncombe County.
Mrs. McCuen was a daughter of the late Emma Jane Carroll McCurry and Frank Lynn McCurry. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Fred B. McCuen, Sr., son, Fred B. McCuen, Jr., sisters, Rose Cowan, Nell Sales, and Ruby Cowan; brothers, Carroll and Tom McCurry.
Mrs. McCuen graduated from Asheville High School in 1933. She was a member of Swannanoa First Baptist Church for over 75 years where she worked in the Beginner Dept.
She was a poet, an avid journal keeper, and loved flowers in every room of the house.
She is survived by her daughter, Marjorie McCuen Young; sons, Jeff McCuen and wife, Marina, David McCuen and wife, Nancy; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren; and sister, Jean McCoy.
The funeral service will be held Friday, October 9, 2015 at 1:00pm in the chapel of Harwood Home for Funerals with the Rev. James Lamb officiating. Burial will be in Sky View Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:00pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Chunns Cove Assisted Living for their caring and kind concern for “Dot”. Also, thank you to Four Seasons Hospice for everything they did to help mother.
