Obituary for John Joseph Rogers

John Joseph Rogers, 102, of Black Mountain passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 21, 2016.
He was a 20-year resident of Highland Farms in Black Mountain along with his wife Emily, who preceded him in death in 2006. John and Emily, who were both from the Chicago area, met, fell in love, and married in Orlando, FL in 1950. They had two sons, Richard in 1953, and Ronald in 1955.
Richard has three children with his wife, Dana; Kelsey, Jarrett and Haylee. Both sons had long careers at NASA and with the Bureau of Land Management, respectively. Both sons have retired, with Richard living in Alabama and Ronald in California.
When John retired as a tool and die mechanic with Martin Marietta in Orlando, he and Emily moved to Maggie Valley, then East Asheville and finally Black Mountain.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 12 noon at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 102 Andrew Place, Swannanoa, NC 28778 followed by light refreshments at approximately 12:45 pm.
Burial will follow at 2:00 pm at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
