When I shared news of the passing of Dr. Wilson to a friend who is also a former patient, he said "I have fond memories of going to the doctor's office." This is one of the most important lessons I learned from Dr. Wilson. I have tried to emulate his approach to parents and children, though I was never able to whistle like a bird as well as he did. As a medical student, I had the opportunity to work with him in Scottsville, Va., still one of my favorite memories from training. He was my pediatrician, my mentor, my friend, my inspiration. My hope is that someday some of my patients will have fond memories of going to the doctor.
