Obituary for Dexter F. Collins

Dexter F.  Collins
Dexter F. Collins, 93, of Black Mountain, passed away January 3, 2017.
Dexter was born April 4, 1923 in McDowell County to the late Samuel and Lula Collins. Dexter retired from Montreat College with 28 years of service. He enjoyed traveling out west to Oregon, where he had worked in the timber industry as a young man. He also enjoyed spending time in his shop woodworking. Dexter was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Katie Collins, Gladys Elliott, Jo Clements, Kelse Collins, Cleve Collins and Jack Collins.
Dexter is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara C. Collins; children, Don Collins (Pam), JoAn Strother (John), and Johnny Collins (Karen); sisters, Mildred Collins, Irene Stephenson, and Gerri Davis; 11 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, Friday, January 6, 2017 at Mountain View Baptist Church with a Celebration of Life Service to follow with Rev. Kevin Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 385 Tabernacle Road, Black Mountain, NC 28711 or CarePartners Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
