Jessie Summey Rice, 10-14-1914 to 01-18-2017.
Jessie was born in Buncombe County to the late Robert G. and Annie Pressley Summey. She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Rice; sister, Nora Summey Hummer Neuenschwander; brothers, Rev. Mack M. Summey and Thomas G. Summey.
She is survived by a niece, Margaret P. Jarrett of Winston Salem, NC; nephews, T. Gary Summey of New Smyrna Beach, FL, William M. Hummer Jr. of Capitan, NM; sisters-in-law, Ethel Davidson of Swannanoa, NC, Sarah Wilson of High Point, NC, Betty Barger of Sumter, SC; and brother-in-law, Wade Talbot of Black Mountain, NC. There are also two generations of great nieces and nephews.
Jessie was a 5th grade Teacher and Librarian in the Black Mountain school system as well as a Sunday School Teacher and Librarian for First Baptist Church, Black Mountain. The past two years, Jessie resided at Givens Highland Farms in Black Mountain.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, PO Box 656, Black Mountain, NC 28711.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm followed immediately by the funeral service on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at First Baptist Church, Black Mountain on 130 Montreat Road. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Park.
Officiating will be Rev. Jeremy Shoulta, Dr. William Henderson and Dr. David Rayburn.
