John Jarrett Way, Jr, born May 22, 1943, died peacefully at home in Black Mountain, NC on October 15, 2014
John graduated from the University of Maryland at Baltimore in 1972, after 4 years of service in the US Coast Guard. John loved to travel, visit museums, delve into history, cook, be near the ocean, have a good glass of wine or Irish Whisky and enjoy the company of friends new and old. He had a life-long passion for learning and could not pass by a good book or map store without meandering through. He enjoyed some wonderful trips and adventures with his partner Lillian Spurling, and his two beloved sons Ethan and Braden. John saw the waves of the North Atlantic, the lushness of Hawaii, the finest museums of Europe and the African sky while on safari and amazing places in between.
John will be missed by Lil, her two daughters Page and Monica, and granddaughter Kala. He was a devoted father and grandfather, leaving behind Ethan Andrew and Jennifer Way and their two children Ashton Paris and Becket Millender, of Tallahassee FL, Braden and Kate Way, and their two children Evan and Rachel of Richmond VA. The eldest of eight children, John will be missed by remaining brother and sisters, Tom, Kate, Maggi, Molly, Laura and Betsy.
A memorial service will be planned for a future date.
