George Leon Fox, Sr., 92 of Asheville, passed away January 13, 2015.
George was born August 16, 1922 in Buncombe County to the late Joe Finley and Mae Whittemore Fox. As a veteran of the US Army, serving during WWII in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge, George received two purple hearts and five bronze stars.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Jack Fox; and sisters, Alma Bynum and Peggy Thielke.
George is survived by his wife, Mercedes Garcia Fox; daughters, Sandra Hughey (Jim) of Bluffton, SC, Lou Ann Dayton (Rick) of Hartsville, SC, and Lizanne Woodson (Mike) of Jonesborough, TN; sons, George Fox, Jr. (Pat) of Fairview, NC, Thomas Breese, Jr. (Gretchen) of Johnson City, TN, and Curtis Breese of Johnson City, TN; sister, Carolyn Smith of Hendersonville, NC; brother, Caroll “Bud” Fox of Statesville, NC; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 4:00 pm at Oteen Baptist Church with Rev. James Lamb and Rev. Gayle Brown officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 pm prior to the service at the church.
Burial will be Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 12:00 pm at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
