Obituary for Rogers Lawrence Tomblin Sr.

Rogers Lawrence  Tomblin Sr.
Rogers Tomblin, Sr., 86, of Asheville, passed away December 12, 2015.
Rogers was born December 9, 1929 in Rutherford County to the late Clarence and Vashtie Ball Tomblin. He was a 1961 graduate of Clemson University with a degree in engineering. Rogers was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard and he retired from the Charles George VA Medical Center in 1990. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Swannanoa and he loved his Sunday School class.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Rogers is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Beam Tomblin; sons, Rogers Tomblin, Jr. (Cindy) of Rutherfordton and Louis Tomblin (Amanda) of Asheville; grandchildren, Jeffrey Tomblin (Andrea), Becky Dodge (Cody), Jacob Tomblin and Jessica Tomblin; and six great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, December 17, 2015 at 10:30 am at First Baptist Church, Swannanoa. Burial will follow at 12:00 pm at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 16, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Harwood Home for Funerals.
