Obituary for Reverend Doctor Donald Charles Nagel

Reverend Doctor Donald Charles Nagel went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 25th, 2018. Donald was born March 6th, 1938 in Dayton, Kentucky to the late Albert and Vivian Nagel. Donald graduated from Highland High School in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky, then proceeded to attain his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University. His desire to serve the Lord earned him a Masters degree in Divinity at Duke University. Through the years he served in roles as both pastor and youth pastor. His passion for healing then led him back to the University of North Carolina where he achieved his Doctorate of Medicine. Immediately following his graduation, his career began as a founding member of the MAHEC Family Medicine Residency, which is still present today. In his last 15 years of practice, he served as a physician at the Drug and Alcohol Rehab Center in Black Mountain, NC.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis, his sister Jeannie Schmusser and brother in law Carl, along with children Kimberly Tatum (Scott), Kelly Belloise (Chuck), Jennifer Barbash (Doug) and grandchildren Jake and Remley, Kelsey and Kamryn and Shane and Troy.
His greatest passion was leading others to Christ. Prayer in numbers, and servant to where ever God called him. God’s work remained his constant until his death. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke he spoke volumes, especially when he prayed. We all remember Donald for his enduring faith and Love of Jesus Christ
His Memorial service will be held Friday, April 6, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church in Weaverville, NC.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
