With heavy hearts, family and friends of Christa Ann Showalter said goodbye to their beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, and aunt on Sunday, September 1, 2019.
In her last days, she was surrounded by family and loved ones. Christa Ann displayed a boundless capacity for joy and happiness and shared her beautiful light each day of her 47 years. She easily made friends from new acquaintances with a contagious love of life and laughter. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Christa Ann was born in Asheville on September 23, 1971, the daughter of Jay Thomas and Sandra (Casper) Showalter. She is survived by her parents; maternal grandmother Emily Casper; devoted sisters Mindy Showalter and Tonya Roberts; brother-in-law Alan Roberts; nephews Elijah Bradley, Christian Roberts, Corey Roberts, and niece Zoë Roberts, all of Asheville.
A celebration of Christa Ann’s life will be held at Warren Wilson College Church on Saturday, September 14 at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends take a moment in her honor to say hello to a stranger, share laughter with a friend, and express your love for family.

My sincerest sympathies to your family at the loss of Christa. Her life made a very large impact on many families in our area as she was one of the pioneers in getting education for all. There are countless professionals who became more adept at providing services to children and adults who needed help in ways not seen before. So many teachers, educators, therapists, and more learned from those who taught and worked with Christa. So many also learned from her family and friends about how wonderful and rich life is for differently abled persons and their families. I know you will miss her more than can be told. Do know that she and your family have made a huge helpful difference in many others' lives. With sincerity, Kaye Cox-Andrews (I don't think I have your address, so I have posted this on the website; I hope you see it.)
